You must, you must, you must watch Broadway Beng. Spare $35 – $50 and an hour and a half of either Monday or Tuesday night, and let Sebastian Tan make you laugh till your sides hurt.
It is odd, this ‘concept’ – as Sebastian calls the idea that turned into this show – of what we know as ‘Bengism‘ and theatre: marrying Broadway showtunes with Hokkien torch songs. But whaddafuck, it is works!
But I think Broadway Beng ‘is works’ because of Sebastian’s impeccable comic timing, his mastery of the Hokkien tongue and the dulcet tones of his made-for-Broadway singing voice.
The show ends its run on Tuesday.
iTunes is playing an illegal copy of Chovendo Na Roseira from the album “Verve Jazz Masters 13” by Antonio Carlos Jobim of which I have the original CD.

Must understand Hokkien to get the jokes? Because my Hokkien is very not powderful. Like,I have trouble following Jack Neo movies…

Trouble following Jack Neo movies? Is because you No Stupid Enough.
There’s a fair bit of Hokkien in Broadway Beng, but it’s ‘translated’ by Sebastian a fair bit too.

Any chance it’ll be aired on Arts Central? heehee.. I know they do that for alot of shows….. I won’t be able to make it for this run. Unless it’ll be staged again?

It was a truly great show! Laughed till my jaws ached man!
Agreed that if you dun understand Hokkien well you probably wun enjoy as much ‘cos some stuff are just not as good after being translated..nonetheless, my non-Hokkien conversant friends still enjoyed Sebastian’s “impeccable comic timing”!!
That helicopter was damn funny and creative!
Way to go, Ah Piew!

Was recommended by my colleague to watch this ‘Broadway Beng’ and bought Two tickets of $50 each plus SISTIC charge of $2 extra charge. All in all, paid $104 for the two of us. I really wanted to comment that I personally feels so WORTH the act and really die laughing all the way. Also enjoy the songs sang by Sebastian and he really got a FanTasTic vocal…..Keep it up ! Sebastian Tan.
