Me and the boys were so looking forward to it.
Right after our phones rang, beeped and crackled with the recorded orders (Personnel with the following code words…. ‘Silent Panty’…) to report back to camp, we started making arrangements to meet up for coffee/beer/chat after reporting. Meeting up in reservist camp is always great fun on a Saturday afternoon, even more so when it’s a hot Saturday afternoon, and you’ve been told to report in Full Battle Order.
Me and the boys lugged ourselves and our gear up and down several flights of stairs, complaining as we went along, then making post-mobilisation beer arrangements while we queued to in-process and out-process ourselves.
As with the best-laid reservist plans, this is what happens: All of us suddenly remember we have our separate civilian lives, and don’t actually meet up for beer after.
And I don’t have a bad separate civilian life either.
