Cunning stunts

Jaclyn Tay said on the New Paper today that she was fed up with doing stunts for charity shows (yes, they’re still on – this one’s for Ren-Ci Hospital).

She said on her mishap at rehearsals yesterday, “The coordination in timing when the guys lowered me wasn’t right. So I ended up being twisted”.

She was a really nice person before that.

My heart goes out to all the circus monkeys contractually obligated to perform dangerous stunts at charity variety shows. Then again, that’s showbiz, and in showbiz, people ask you to do the darndest things.

You could, however, shun the limelight and all its attendant distractions, and like, join a monastery, y’know, and become like a monk? And like, live a life of seclusion and meditation, and only, like, once a year, come out and put abseiling gear on top of your saffron robes and walk, each foot on a 15cm wide beam, suspended dunnohowmany storeys above Shenton Way, and still be called Venerable.

I’m sure Jaclyn knows as well as I do, that you don’t need stunts to raise money. Just get Fiona Xie to demonstrate, on live television, how to use Osim’s uZap.

Latest Defibrillator uZap:Turbo – I’d like to apply this on Fiona.

iTunes is playing an illegal copy of With My Own Two Hands from the album “Diamonds on the Inside” by Ben Harper of which I have the original CD.

    Mr. Miyagi,

you’re spotted on with your suggestion of Fiona using the uZap, esp the “new” one that you suggested.

it’s not bad for Ren Ci as Venerable Shi Ming Yi is endangering his life to raise funds whereas other ex-CEO was nowhere to be seen or just among the audience clapping!

btw, it seems that there’re something wrong with the CSS code in Tomorrow.sg, the hyperlinks are “white” in color thus making them invisible in the white background.

Remember “Beauty World”? I think that was one of the first of charity shows. I think that actors should do what they do best – ACT. And if they can, stage another musical. And pls, this time NO PCK.

Every year same old stunts. Super boring lor.

Beauty World was so good I still remember it today. Confirm plus chop can raise alot of money also what.

I agree with Jaclyn Tay. Why should artiste risk injury to raise fund. It is so demeaning to act like monkeys and try to invoke the sympathy (rather than the charity) out of the public, to donate. Such irony. With injuries (it could happen again), it sets the performers back many days and weeks. Totally unneccessary, such stunts. The ‘monk’ should rethink his vocation, his calling. The means does not justify the ends, sometimes. the process is important.
