Yes, this is junk mail…
So today I received an email that went:
Dear STI Reader,
We hope you have enjoyed reading The Straits Times Interactive (STI), the online version of The Straits Times – the nation’s flagship newspaper with a readership of 1.35 million daily.
STI went into a subscription model in March this year and about 10,000 readers have signed up as a subscriber for their daily feed of local & international news.
For the rest that have yet to do so, we understand that many of you are still visiting the STI home page daily to read the news headlines.
To encourage you to become a subscriber so that you can read beyond the home page to enjoy the full stories behind the headlines, we are pleased to offer you this special promotion exclusively for our STI registered members that have yet to take on our online subscription…
I am replying: “Ah, fuck you lah!”. But I am not encouraging everyone to do the same, because, you know, you might very well want to pay money to read our village newspaper online.

What the hell? Who wants to pay for surfing Straits Times Interactive (STI) online when there is so much free news on the net? Apparently there are 10,000 dumbos who have fallen prey and signed up and paid to surf STI.

It’s a total waste of money….

someone once mentioned that its ridiculous how STI decides to charge when so many much better international newspapers do not charge for their online published articles, like BBC?
ah well…

Would appreciate if you do not leave remarks on your blog as this could lead you to a legal suit.

Rather than threatening with legal suit, can SPH explain the offence? Is it okay to spam e-mails of ex-readers? Is this good marketing liaison?
