Help still needed

This morning, mrbrown and myself are scheduled to be on CNA’s Prime Time Morning show, you know, the early in the morning one where they talk about the stock market and interview analysts from financial firms like Wanker & Stains?

We were emailed a series of questions, most of them were quite easy to answer, so, sure pass one. Except this one, which, because of one mere set of double negatives, has gotten me and mrbrown perplexed, and as a result, we won’t be able to sleep tonight:

Given that both of you have newspaper columns too, would you say that blogging doesn’t remain sacred if its not in cyberspace?

So, please, if you could, help us out and decipher the question. Because we is just bloggers, so, nosso smart, y’know?

The other thing I can’t figure out is why my RSS feed doesn’t update properly, even though I’ve taken to blogging more regularly. So, if you’ve got any good WordPress tips, help me out also. Can? Tankew.

  1. hmm. question basically means that blogging is only sacred if it remains in cyberspace. having a newspaper column by bloggers may make it appear that blogging isn’t restricted to the net so it loses its shine in cyberspace because it can be done elsewhere. did i just make it more complicated? haha.

  5. well, here’s my two cents worth…
my understanding of what the question wants to ask is:
your opinion on whether the “sacred-ness” of blogging itself will be compromised due to the fact that two of our country’s most prominent bloggers have moved into writing for newspaper columns.

This issue arises from the fact that blogging has always been hugely associated with the WWW (or rather its birthplace is the WWW). Thus moving into writing for newspaper columns with material/writing styles from yr blogs aka “blogging offline” perhaps endangers/jeopardizes the identity of blogging, as it shows that blogging currently still isnt the mass media of choice and ultimately to reach a larger audience, newspapers columns are the way to go?

  9. First “they” have to define “sacred” as in why is blogging sacred, in what sense? Here’s my take if I interpret correctly that is, blogs are known to be a domain for free speech or maybe idealism depending on individuals. Blog writings have been in a way, often colloquial in writing style and without much self-restrain in views. Now, newspaper columns as we know particularly Singapore, requires great care in expressing and bringing messages across to the general audience. So, I infer from the question that based itself on blogging on “hard-copy” such as newspaper? Now can that be allowed in the first place as in “openess” like we do in our blogs and what makes blogging “sacred” is much like a sanctuary for materials not meant to be confronted by regulations.

Pretty much like inviting a witch doctor to perform some virgin sacrificial rites that is believed to be able to heal rarer illnesses in Orchard, in the public. You gotta think think twice about the gore and oh, nudity and WTH…whatever it is, blogs shall always be a sacred tomb, a cloister for all restricted and somewhat twisted idealism maybe.

  13. Hey, I’m the one asking for help, nick! But here’s a tip, since my blog is up and yours isn’t. You have to install WordPress on your server. OK, when you’re done with that, come back here and ask again for the next step. So exciting. Like Amazing Race.

  21. if you finally get sick of this kubrick default template, do check out alex king’s wordpress themes. huge collection, cos of the theme competitions. if you do download and edit them, and things end up looking funny at the presentation>theme switcher page, just remember to delete the commented off chunk at the top of the style.css (where it talks about theme name and stuff). have fun 😉

p.s you’re my fave blogger cos of the 21jul affinity 😉 haha.
