The Speak Good English Campaign may be working. But the Write English Just As Good one hasn’t been launched yet, which explains this sign at Changi Airport Terminal One:

Your English also out of service

COMPUTER SYSTEM IS TEMPORARY OUT OF SERVICE. SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCED CAUSED

I’m not even going to ask why there’s a semi-permanent placard that announces computer breakdowns.

    it should be:
Computer System Temporarily Out Of Service. Sorry for the inconvenience caused.

(Temporary and Inconvenienced are wrongly used in the original lah).

Has anyone seen the one at Woodlands Checkpoint that encourages you to “Please Queue Up Orderly”?

I would have taken a picture, except for the guy with the gun standing next to it.

And what about “no outside food” and its many variations that still essentially revolve around the same words?

Even hotels are adopting this sign =_=

Its a classic case of follow the leader..

Yeah, the no outside food gets to me too. I have read signs using proper English, telling people that food purchased outside their premises are not to be consumed there (or something like that), but I guess ‘No outside food’ is shorter. Singlish is all about abbreviation, isn’t it?
